Description
The Ferrari 640 was in many ways a revolutionary car. The first ever F1 car to feature semi-automatic transmission, Ferrari had high hopes for the 1989 season. However, the gearbox proved unreliable, and although fast, the 640 was beaten to the 1989 title by the superior reliability of McLaren and their Honda V10’s.
However, this didn’t stop Ferrari’s new driver Nigel Mansell from taking a debut win with the 640 in Rio de Janeiro at the opening race of the 1989 season. Mansell joked he was so sure the car wasn’t going to last the race he booked earlier plane tickets back home. But the temperamental gearbox held, and Mansell celebrated a famous victory.
This is a stunning HD print commemorating that victory, signed by Mansell himself.
