Italian circuit architect Jarno Zaffelli was hired to design a new permanent facility at Termas de Río Hondo which opened on 10 May 2008. It was refurbished with new infield section in 2013 which was immediately rewarded with a round of the World Touring Car Championship. A MotoGP round scheduled for that year had to be postponed a year due to the fallout from the nationalisation of Repsol YPF, the Argentinian subsidiary of Repsol. On the World Motorcycle Championship calendar since 2014, it was cancelled due to COVID-19 in 2020, and ”due to current circumstances in Argentina” in 2024. The pit complex was rebuilt in 2021 after being destroyed by fire on 6 February.
