Not only is Tennessee’s Bristol Motor Speedway among the shortest circuits on the NASCAR calendar, but it also boasts the steepest banking at 36 degrees. Over 100,000 spectators cram into the facility, especially for the floodlit August night race. With mountains on either side, Bristol is nicknamed “Thunder Valley” although one peak was flattened as new owner Bruton Smith brought the circuit up to date. A temporary dirt surface was introduced for the 2020 NASCAR race, with banking eased, although that event was cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic.
