This two-mile 40,000-capacity oval opened on 9 November 1909 with a “clay, sand and gravel with asphalt binder” track surface. The AAA organised a series of races in May 1910 and the Atlanta Motordrome was intended to be an early rival for the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. However, it closed after just one poorly supported season. The land was eventually sold in 1925 to build the town’s municipal airport.
