TOCA has opened a tender for a hybrid supplier for the BTCC
TOCA has invited contractors to express interest in supplying hybrid units for the British Touring Car Championship from 2021 or 2022.
The BTCC aims to switch to hybrid power from 2022, although it could start using them from 2021 if possible.
“The winning contractor will be required to produce a light, cost-effective, low-voltage hybrid system with proven durability,” reads the invitation to tender. “This hybrid system will be incorporated into the current specification BTCC cars – additional to their 2-litre turbocharged engines.”

Last year, Alan Gow said: “Just as importantly, by incorporating hybrid it keeps the BTCC absolutely relevant to manufacturers, sponsors and the public… with the added benefit of further enhancing our great racing.
“Drivers will have a given reserve of additional hybrid power to use during each race, which will provide an extra element of racecraft and excitement to the fantastically close and entertaining racing that is the hallmark of the BTCC.”
The contract will be awarded in the next three months.
