This is the most expensive Ford GT40 ever sold – despite its calamitous history
A Ford GT40 MkII which managed 12 laps at the famous 1966 Le Mans 24 Hours has become been auctioned for a record amount
Mark Webber took the Porsche 919 around the sights of London this morning, with the new Panamera 4 E-Hybrid trailing behind before its world launch at the Paris Motor Show.
Six months in the planning, the run was veiled in secrecy until the night before.
Speaking afterwards, Mark Webber said: “It was a pretty optimistic route to be fair around London, taking in Parliament Square, Park Lane Piccadilly, Big Ben. We stopped a lot of traffic but they pretty excited to see the car so it was double whammy on that front. It was real showstopper, I really enjoyed it.
“It was tricky, visibility is really difficult in that car so I couldn’t see the kerbs and a few things made it more interesting that I thought it would be. Its net really smooth, weather was great; it ticked a big box!
“It was a special moment – people would literally stop in their track. It looks incredibly futuristic, under the bonnet it’s incredibly futuristic and looks gorgeous. I won’t forget the emotion on the day and the amount of people whose jaws were on the deck and were able to soak it up.”
Watch videos taken live during the run below, we’ll add more when we get them. Photos from the run can be found here.

Two of racing's biggest rivals are on collision course once more, with the Ford v Ferrari battle for overall Le Mans victory due to resume in 2027 after six decades — and Ford is already talking up the fight
Ford will develop a new top-tier sports car to compete for overall victory in the Le Mans 24 Hours and the World Endurance Championship Hypercar class from 2027 onwards, aiming to continue where its GT40 left off in the 1960s
Peugeot CEO Linda Jackson warned that winning was essential for its Hypercar project earlier this year. After an uncompetitive run in the Le Mans 24 Hours, she says that the fight goes on, with the team confident that it will catch its rivals
