Dan Ticktum switches to Formula E with NIO 333

Dan Ticktum will make the switch to Formula E with NIO 333 for the upcoming season.

The 22 year-old has been confirmed by the team as partnering Oliver Turvey in an all-British driver line-up.

Currently competing in Formula 2 with Carlin, Ticktum sits fourth in the drivers’ standings ahead of the final two rounds of the season but has courted controversy once again in 2021.

He was formerly part of the Williams Driver Academy until August of this year after comments he made appearing to mock current F1 driver Nicholas Latifi. Though the Briton maintains the incident was unrelated to his parting of ways with the team, his deal with Williams was terminated shortly after and was another episode in a controversial career.

“I am very happy to be racing with the NIO 333 Formula E team,” Ticktum said. “It’s going to be quite a big challenge as I have not had long to prepare for the test next week, and Formula E is complicated, but it’ll be very exciting.

“There are quite a few different tools you can use as a driver but it’s a totally different experience to Formula 2, so I’m really looking forward to it, both mentally and physically. I’ve had a great few days with the team at Silverstone this week and hopefully we can try to make some progress next season and get further up the grid.”

Ill-discipline has been a self-admitted weakpoint for Ticktum, and the Williams incident far from the first time he has attracted controversy out of the car.

Despite that, CEO of the NIO 333 team Vincent Wang said that Ticktum’s ability on street tracks made him an attractive proposition for the seat.

“His race results that impress me the most are the two victories in the Macau Grand Prix, one of the most famous races in the world.

“Though he has shouldered some difficulties during his career, I believe that his experience will pave the way to success. He is a young, bright new star who will shine on the Formula E racetrack.”

The 2021/22 Formula E season is set to begin in Saudi Arabia in January 2022.
