Four-time Formula 1 world champion Sebastian Vettel is set to get back behind the wheel of a GP car for the first time since retiring, showing off his stunning personal F1 car collection to the public at this year’s Goodwood Festival of Speed.

Vettel, one of F1’s most successful drivers, will roar up the Goodwood House hill in Ayrton Senna’s 1993 McLaren MP4/8, the race winning Williams-Cosworth FW08C, a Williams-Renault FW19 and his cherished 1992 Williams FW14B – other wise known as Nigel Mansell’s “Red Five”.

There’ll be more to it than just a thrilling look back to F1’s glorious past though. All the cars will run on the ‘Race Without Trace’ sustainable fuels, a project spearheaded by the environmentally-conscious Vettel.

“It’s great to be coming back to Goodwood after all these years,” the German said.

“I can’t wait to get behind the wheel of some of my most memorable cars which will be running on sustainable fuel over the weekend.

“I’m a passionate racer and it’s important to me that we continue to enjoy driving iconic racing cars today and in the future, but that we do so in a responsible way.”

Vettel is a well-documented F1 history fanatic, famously naming every world champion in chronological order when challenged last year.

The winner of 53 grands prix also demonstrated his ‘Red Five’ Mansell FW14B at Silverstone last year, with the 1992 world champion on-hand to give some pointers.

“It was good fun,” Vettel said afterwards. “You know, the tyres took a while to warm up. But once they came in the car was just screaming at me: ‘Why are you lifting, why aren’t you going faster?’

“It was incredible, because it was sort of a time travel. You know, just imagining now… I was missing the other cars on the track, and it would have been super cool. I mean, Silverstone is a very wide track. I think it’s wider than it has been even. It’s always been wide.

“Seb is awesome,” Mansell said to Motor Sport. “I mean, a four-time world champion. His career is basically second to none, I believe. And he’s such a private individual.

“There are very few drivers that spend their own money and actually buy an F1 car and do what he’s done. It’s just absolutely incredible.”
