Piastri starts on pole for the Bahrain Grand Prix

Oscar Piastri will be at the front of starting grid for the 2025 Bahrain Grand Prix after a dominant qualifying performance, that left him 0.4sec and five places ahead of his team-mate and championship leader Lando Norris.

Scroll down to see how the full grid will look when it lines up for the third grand prix of the season, which starts at 4pm in the UK — 6pm local time in Bahrain.

Piastri looked to be fastest throughout the session and saved the best to last, with a final 1min 29.841sec lap.

The closest driver was George Russell, 0.15sec behind but he and team-mate Kimi Antonelli, who was fourth fastest, have been hit with one-place grid penalties after leaving their garages too early.

That leaves Charles Leclerc on the front row ahead of Russell and Pierre Gasly. Kimi Antonelli will start fifth on the same row as sixth-placed Norris who cast a dejected figure in the paddock following the session. “I’m just not quick enough,” he told Sky Sports.

Max Verstappen was complaining about his brakes and could only manage seventh in a Red Bull that hasn’t looked at home all weekend. Even so, he was still almost a second faster than team-mate Yuki Tsunoda who starts 10th, just behind Lewis Hamilton.

Most disappointed may be Alex Albon, who ended his unbroken 2025 run of top ten starts. He was knocked out in Q1 by Nico Hülkenberg, who took the last Q2 slot and qualified 14th. However, after the session, Hülkenberg’s fastest Q1 run was deleted due to exceeding track limits and he was demoted to 16th. It moves Albon up to 15th, but the Williams driver missed out on competing in Q2.

Esteban Ocon also moves up a place as a result of Hülkenberg’s drop. He had been due to start 15th after crashing early in Q2 and triggering a red flag. Just before the session resumed, Mercedes released its cars into the pitlane too early, which resulted in the penalties for Russell and Antonelli.

As it stands, here is how the grid will line up on Sunday.
