Also included in the collection is Nigel Mansell’s Williams FW14B with which he dominated the world championship in 1992 — a season where the Silverstone crowds were euphoric with Mansell mania. Two years earlier, Mansell had furiously announced his retirement (later retracted) when his Ferrari failed as he led the British Grand Prix and his team-mate Alain Prost went on to win. That victorious Ferrari 641, as driven by the Frenchman, is on display too.
The unique exhibition will showcase Daniel Ricciardo‘s Red Bull RB10, a car the Aussie drove to third in the 2014 F1 world championship and captured wins in Spain, Hungary and Belgium, as well as Michael Schumacher‘s first F1 car – the 7UP Jordan 191.
David Coulthard‘s McLaren MP4/15, Damon Hill’s Williams FW16C and Jenson Button‘s title-winning Brawn BGP 001 will also be on display, alongside numerous pieces of legendary racing memorabilia, such as the museum’s British Grand Prix trophy and drivers’ sign on sheets from throughout history.
F1 fans will also get a chance to participate in over 60 hands-on exhibits – from operating a wind tunnel and taking part in a pit stop to racing on the museum’s ultimate Scalextric track.
“It is fantastic to be able to bring together for the first time such magnificent machines and showcase the achievements of F1’s legendary sporting stars,” said Rachel James, Head of Marketing for the Silverstone Museum. “With a whole host of additional F1 activities we have planned throughout the summer season we know this exclusive exhibition will be hugely popular with Formula One fans and families.”
