How to watch 2024 Las Vegas Grand Prix: start time, F1 live stream and TV schedule

Formula 1 returns this weekend for the Las Vegas Grand Prix, where you can watch Max Verstappen‘s first chance to seal the world championship — assuming you wake up in time for the live TV and streaming coverage, which starts in the early hours of the morning.

The closely-matched frontrunners look set to put on another spectacular show in the entertainment capital of the world, with a constructors’ title still up for grabs. They will do battle under floodlights, with all of the on-track action taking part at night. That means a 2.30am start for UK fans keen to watch the first practice session on Friday. Qualifying takes place at 6am GMT on Saturday and the lights go out for the Grand Prix itself at 6am on Sunday.

The fanfare and glamour of the weekend will be slightly dialled down compared to last year, with no grand opening ceremony planned. But there should still be plenty of racing thrills between the F1 grid, as well as the supporting Ferrari Challenge series, which joins the schedule.

How to watch F1: live stream and TV details for 2024 Las Vegas Grand Prix

The Las Vegas Grand Prix will follow a traditional format: the weekend composed of three practice sessions, qualifying and a 50-lap grand prix.

Don’t be confused by the time difference, which means that, in Las Vegas, qualifying takes place on Friday (10pm local time) and the Grand Prix on Saturday (also at 10pm). A new day will have already ticked over for European viewers for whom qualifying and the race will be on the more familiar Saturday and Sunday.

It will mean an early start, but the prospect of a high-speed circuit, the challenge of cold weather, and the spectacle of a Las Vegas night race should make an early alarm clock worthwhile.

Live TV: All on-track sessions will be broadcast live on Sky Sports F1 starting with Free Practice 1 on Friday at 2.30am.

Las Vegas GP circuit and details

Older Las Vegas residents may remember when F1 first came to town in 1981, racing on a temporary street circuit around the grounds of the Caesars Palace Hotel. Fast forward to 2024, and F1 has broken out of the casino car park to take over the Strip itself.

Located in the heart of Clark County, the 3.85-mile circuit is comprised of 17 corners and two DRS zones, which wind their way around the dazzling screen of the Sphere, down the Strip at over 200mph and round to F1’s paddock building at the start/finish straight.

Verstappen was able to breeze to a Sin City victory last year — despite receiving a time penalty and making mid-race contact with George Russell. But with Red Bull’s performance seemingly now matched by that of Ferrari and McLaren, the Dutchman could face some fierce opposition in 2024 — especially from Lando Norris.

The Briton needs to outscore Verstappen by three points or more this weekend to keep the title fight alive, but with only three races remaining it’s likely McLaren could focus Norris’ efforts on the fight against Ferrari for the constructors’ title.

The two teams are currently separated by just 36 points and a good result in Las Vegas could prove decisive in the title battle.

What’s the weather like in Las Vegas this weekend? 

The forecast for this weekend’s Las Vegas Grand Prix is expected to be dry but the cold air of the Nevada desert could send qualifying runs and race day strategy awry.

On Saturday evening, temperatures could drop as low as 8C, making it difficult for drivers to get heat into their tyres and to retain brake temperature. It could make for an interesting race start — as we saw in 2023, with three cars sent spinning at Turn 1.
