The Singapore Grand Prix is one of several night races now found on a hectic 2023 F1 calendar – but few still come close to capturing the atmosphere of Marina Bay.

Joining the series for the first time in 2008, race weekends here are among some of the toughest F1 has to offer – the circuit’s narrow, high speed nature and the city’s humid climate producing all kinds of mid-race mayhem. A new track layout in 2023 should only add to the chaos.

While Sergio Perez delivered a brilliant drive during F1’s last trip to Singapore, a currently unmatched Max Verstappen could be the favourite for another win here in 2023 – his eleventh in a row and his thirteenth of the season. But as Red Bull advisor Helmut Marko has warned: “Ferrari could be a problem for us.”

Can Ferrari upset Red Bull’s win streak in Singapore?

The Scuderia are perhaps the trailing field’s best hope of derailing the Dutchman in Singapore, with the SF23 and Charles Leclerc suited to the street circuit’s demands. An impressive showing from Carlos Sainz in Monza could also indicate another two pronged attack if Ferrari can qualify both cars high up the grid.

But as F1 has learned before, victory is never quite certain in Marina Bay – the heat and humidity making it one of the most physically demanding challenges of the entire 2023 campaign. In these conditions, mistakes are made easily, possibly opening the door for a resurgent Fernando Alonso or even a first career victory for McLaren‘s Lando Norris or Oscar Piastri.

Here’s how to watch all the action at the Singapore GP.

Singapore GP circuit and details

Drivers will face a different challenge in Singapore this season, with major adaptations made to the circuit in an attempt to make it faster than ever.

Turns 16 to 19 have been bypassed: the well known grandstand chicane, in which cars go underneath the watching fans, has been replaced with an almost 400 metre-long straight which begins at the exit of Turn 14.

Not only will this make the lap faster, but should give drivers more changes to overtake come race day.

The circuit has three DRS zones: one exiting Turn 5 onto the circuit’s first proper straight, the next from the run down to Turn 14 and the final one on the start/finish straight itself.

In the past, the circuit has been a success story for cars with high downforce and drivers with quick reactions, but it has also been at the centre of controversy – Nelson Piquet Jr crashing purposely in 2008 to allow fellow Renault team-mate Alonso to claim victory.

At 4.928km in length, the circuit is marginally smaller but will prompt a higher number of laps in the Grand Prix – jumping from 61 to 63.

As if a new layout to master wasn’t a big enough challenge, drivers will also have to compete against the weather, with scattered thunderstorms expected across Saturday and Sunday. All signs point to chaos.
