Time for a street circuit specialist? Here are our F1 Fantasy tips and predictions for the 2024 Singapore Grand Prix

Sergio Perez has been picked by just 9% of F1 Fantasy players so far this season — and for good reason. Through the first 16 rounds of the year, he finished on the podium only four times; failed to finish inside the top five in ten races; and scored almost half the F1 Fantasy points of his Red Bull team-mate Max Verstappen.

But then came a resurgent performance in Baku, where he qualified fourth and looked set to finish on the podium (scoring 29 F1 Fantasy points in the process) before a penultimate lap crash with Carlos Sainz. Now the question is whether the Mexican will once again be among the front-runners in Singapore. If so, he could be the best bang-for-your-buck driver on the F1 Fantasy grid.

Perez’s reputation as a street circuit specialist is well founded, with five of his six career wins coming at temporary tracks including Jeddah, Monaco, Baku and — perhaps most importantly — Singapore. Since 2022, he’s also accumulated the third-most points on F1 street circuits (248) out of every driver on the current grid— beaten only by Charles Leclerc (205) and Verstappen (251), both of whom will cost you more.

Perez’s strength is his “simpler driving style”, as Mark Hughes previously mentioned for Motor Sport, which allows him to optimise traction and be confident in shaving the walls to find time. If Perez can deploy those skills in a car that gives him confidence, he could be your cheapest shot at a race-winner for the Singapore GP for $23m — unless you forsee Sainz, at $22.7m, repeating his victory of last year.

With Perez in your line-up, you should still have the budget for two big constructors (McLaren/Mercedes/Ferrari) and another front-running driver.

But if you’re not convinced by the Mexcian’s sudden spike in form or his illustrious street track racing record, there are a few other options to consider…

How to score the most F1 Fantasy points possible at the Singapore GP

While Perez has been a force to be reckoned with on street circuits in the past, his most recent performances have been unpredictable. So, while we’d still recommend including the Mexican (if only for just one race) it remains sensible to pair him with more consistent driver and team options.

Regular readers of Motor Sport‘s F1 Fantasy guides will know that picking McLaren and Mercedes as your constructors of choice has long been our recommendation. In fact, since the summer break, they’ve been the grid’s top scoring constructors. But with Ferrari now proving to be McLaren’s closest on-track competitor, we think it’s time to switch out Mercedes in favour of the Scuderia, who currently look more likely race-winners.

Ferrari is $0.7m more than the Brackley outfit, but with the inclusion of Perez instead of Leclerc or Norris, you should have enough budget to fit both of F1’s front-running constructors under one roof, with enough left over to fill out the rest of your street circuit specialist line-up.

Oscar Piastri

Oscar Piastri has been F1’s highest scoring driver through the last seven rounds of racing, courtesy of wins in Baku and Hungary; podium finishes in Italy, Belgium and Austria; and close-fought fourth-place finishes at Silverstone and Zandvoort.

It’s a run of which has turned him into one of F1 Fantasy’s must-have drivers, with a grid-leading total of 237 points since late-June and an average score of 33.85 F1 Fantasy points per race. That’s not far off Verstappen’s score from the start of the season when he won five of the first seven races and averaged 35.8 Fantasy points per GP.

As the Aussie costs the same as Charles Leclerc ($25.2m), picking him over the Monegasque is, right now, a no-brainer, given the consistent performance of McLaren versus the variable performance of Ferrari and the drop off in Red Bull and Mercedes’ form.

In fact, a F1 Fantasy player’s only real alternative to Piastri is his title-contending team-mate…

Lando Norris

Inconsistency is not helping Lando Norris in his pursuit of the drivers’ title, and nor is it helping Fantasy team owners.

Over the last seven rounds, Norris has been out-scored by his cheaper team-mate four times; has failed to score over 20 points on two separate race weekends; and from three pole positions, he has only won a single race. The Briton has also only narrowly out-scored Lewis Hamilton (214-207) since the Austrian GP — despite the latter costing $2m less.

Our advice? Save your money and go with his team-mate.

Alex Albon

Alex Albon‘s recent form on street circuits behind the wheel of a Williams speaks for itself. He finished ninth in Monte Carlo earlier this year after qualifying impressively in the same spot, and then went a step further by qualifying ninth and finishing seventh in Baku last weekend.

For $9m, he’s one of the the more expensive back-marker options, but his experience and performances of the past could become invaluable over a race weekend in Singapore where chaos often runs rampant.

If Albon stretches your budget a little too far, his Grove team-mate Franco Colapinto has proved a great alternative, as the Argentine has scored 20 F1 Fantasy points across his first two races in F1, and currently costs $6.8m. However, it remains to be seen how the rookie will handle the heat and humidity of Marina Bay.

Daniel Ricciardo

Daniel Ricciardo is a driver under pressure as his F1 career hangs in the balance once again. There are strong rumours that the Aussie is set to be replaced by Liam Lawson for 2025, with a potential announcement coming after the race in Marina Bay.

The looming decision could focus the veteran, but his recent form isn’t encouraging. Ricciardo has shown little sign of justifying his $11m price tag and hasn’t scored more than eight points in a grand prix in the past six races.

Your money looks better spent elsewhere.

What F1 Fantasy Chips should I use in Singapore?

With only seven rounds of racing remaining and visits to street circuits now limited, this weekend may be a wise one to use your F1 Fantasy Final Fix Chip, which allows you to make one change to your line-up in between Saturday’s qualifying session and Sunday’s race. For example, if you have Oscar Piastri in your line-up but Charles Leclerc takes pole, and since the two are identical in price, you should swap one out for the other in order to take advantage of the Ferrari driver’s better grid position.

My F1 Fantasy team for Singapore

Following a brilliant drive in Baku, I’ve decided take a risk and include Sergio Perez in my F1 Fantasy line-up for Singapore, writes Cambridge Kisby, replacing Charles Leclerc and saving me $2.2m in the process.

That saving has allowed me to upgrade from Mercedes to Ferrari, which joins McLaren as my chosen constructors.

The rest of my line-up remains mostly the same, with Oscar Piastri, Franco Colapinto and Zhou Guanyu joined by Nico Hülkenberg, whose Haas looked competitive on the streets of Baku. The German replaces Valtteri Bottas for Singapore.
