Dan Gurney has passed away at the age of 86 due to complications from pneumonia, his family has confirmed.
Gurney, born in New York in 1931, was one motor racing’s most versatile and most popular racers. He won four Grands Prix, Le Mans, and also claimed victories in NASCAR, IndyCar, Can-Am and Trans-Am. In 1966 he turned his hand to being a constructor, forming Eagle and All American Racers with whom he won the 1967 Belgian Grand Prix.
In a statement, his family has said: “In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to Hoag Hospital Foundation in Newport Beach, CA.
“For those that want to express their sentiments, please write a note to [email protected].”
Motor Sport extends its condolences to the Gurney family.
