It’s boom time for airbrush artists. A new season brings a surge in demand for new 2025 F1 helmet designs from the 20 drivers who make up the grid. Where once the same basic pattern might follow a driver from karting to the Formula 1 paddock, most designs now won’t even be raced for a full year before drivers opt for a fresh look.
TV graphics and better car identifiers have reduced the need for a consistent helmet design, and several drivers have embraced the creative freedom.
While Charles Leclerc has chosen to stick to a simple two-colour scheme, Lando Norris has gone full psychedelic with his 2025 lid — similar to his 2024 British Grand Prix design — with a mixture of deep black and neon green. Similarly, Lewis Hamilton has gone back to a full yellow design, reminiscent of the helmet he wore during his McLaren days. Oliver Bearman and Oscar Piastri‘s helmets are also particularly eye-catching, with designs dominated by bright colours and complete with their driver logos.
Others have chosen to keep it simple, with both Lance Stroll and Esteban Ocon simply adopting the colours of their respective teams.
The vast majority of drivers have shown off their new custom helmet designs already, with reveals from Pierre Gasly, Jack Doohan, Nico Hülkenberg and Gabriel Bortoleto the only ones still to come.
As in previous years, drivers are expected to race with one-off designs at particular races, usually to celebrate the venue or pay a tribute. At the 2024 Las Vegas Grand Prix, many drivers adopted a new helmet theme to commemorate one of the biggest races on the F1 calendar. A similar showcase of colour is expected for beloved races in Miami, Monaco and Singapore.
