2024 F1 helmet designs: Every driver's racing lid for new campaign
From the bold to the bizarre, here's every driver's F1 helmet design for the 2024 season
It’s boom time for airbrush artists. A new season brings a surge in demand for new 2024 F1 helmet designs from the 20 drivers who make up the grid.
Where once the same basic pattern might follow a driver from karting to the Formula 1 paddock, most designs now won’t even be raced for a full year before drivers opt for a fresh look.
TV graphics and better car identifiers have reduced the need for a consistent helmet design, and several drivers have embraced the creative freedom. While Pierre Gasly and Lance Stroll have chosen to stick to simple two-colour schemes. Lando Norris has gone almost psychedelic with his 2024 lid, with a mixture of deep black and neon green. Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz‘s helmets are also eye-catching, with designs dominated almost entirely by Ferrari red.
Most drivers have shown off their new custom helmet designs so far, with reveals from Kevin Magnussen, George Russell and Lewis Hamilton still to come.
As in previous years, drivers are expected to race with one-off designs at particular races, usually to celebrate the venue or pay a tribute. At the 2023 Las Vegas Grand Prix, many drivers adopt a new helmet theme to commemorate the city’s return to the F1 calendar. A similar showcase of colour might be expected for the series’ return to China as well as its annual visit to Monte Carlo, while in testing we saw Lando Norris wear a helmet inspired by the late Gil de Ferran.
For budding artists, Hamilton has launched a competition for fans to giving fans aged 11-18 to come up with a new helmet design. The seven-time world champion will be photographed with the winning submissions during a grand prix weekend and may choose to use them on track.
