Jeddah's night race is next on the F1 calendar

Formula 1 will race for the third time in three weekends this Sunday, which means that the next F1 race will be the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix on April 20, one week after Oscar Piastri’s victory in Bahrain, and 14 days after Max Verstappen’s Japanese GP win.

That will conclude a hectic first part of the 2025 World Championship, featuring five races in just over a month, in which the prospects look good for an almighty championship battle between the McLaren drivers, with Ferrari, Red Bull and Mercedes all looking capable of challenging at times. Two weeks after the Jeddah race comes the Miami Grand Prix — one that often sees teams bring the first of the year’s major upgrades. McLaren did so in 2024, and instantly had the fastest car on the grid, so watch out for the potential of a revised competitive order.

European season

Imola is next on May 16, marking the start of the European season with another triple-header. The following week will bring the final Monaco Grand Prix to be held in May for some time. Its clash with the Indy 500 (on May 25) will be avoided from 2026, when the blue riband event is shifted to a June date.

Spain wraps up the three races in a row before a trip to Canada, and then the remainder of the European rounds, including the British Grand Prix at Silverstone on July 6. In 2025, the summer break will take place between the Hungarian Grand Prix on August 3 and the Dutch Grand Prix on August 31.

Season run-in

The final run-in mirrors the 2024 season, with races in Baku and Singapore before an extended run in the Americas: Austin, Mexico, Brazil and Las Vegas precede the final two rounds in Qatar and Abu Dhabi — another triple header to bring the year to a close on December 7.

When is the 2025 Saudi Arabian Grand Prix?

The fifth round of the Formula 1 season takes place in Saudi Arabia, at the fastest street track on the racing calendar: the Jeddah Corniche circuit. Track action begins with Friday practice sessions on April 18, followed by final practice and qualifying on Saturday April 19. The 2025 Saudi Arabian Grand Prix will be held on Sunday April 20.

After F1’s early-season visits to Australia, China and Japan brought crack-of-dawn races for European audiences, the Middle East night races in Bahrain and now Saudi Arabia mean a late afternoon start: this weekend’s race starts at 6pm, 8pm local time in Jeddah.

Where is the 2025 Saudi Arabian Grand Prix?

The Jeddah Corniche circuit once again hosts the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix: the high-speed sweeping corners drive the average lap speed up to almost 160mph in qualifying. Cars reach more than 210mph at its fastest point.
