SPEEDO FLATTER
* * * SPEEDO FLATTER Sir, Your description of a run made in a 21-litre Lagonda in last month's issue is of interest. I feel, however, that without speedo meter…
Time was that motor racing fans got closest to Nigel Mansell during the zealous aftermath of one of his Formula 1 victories, of which there were five on home soil. Mansell Mania was such that following the 1992 British Grand Prix, Silverstone imposed a ban on post-race track invasions – largely because spectators had flooded the circuit to greet their hero while drivers of slower cars were still heading for the chequered flag at racing speed.
The practice was eventually restored, albeit with a much greater degree of enforced control by the circuit authorities, and continues to this day.
Motor Sport is pleased to announce that it is offering readers the opportunity to spend time with the 1992 world champion in rather calmer circumstances, at one of its forthcoming Game Changer evenings. On Tuesday September 10, Mansell will join members of the Motor Sport editorial team on stage at a venue in central London (the location will be notified nearer the time).
The event runs from 6.00-8.30pm and, once the main interview has concluded, there will be an opportunity for audience members to ask their own questions.
Tickets are priced at £60 each (including a pre-show drink) and full details are available from motorsportmagazine.com/events.
