Munich stadium to host DTM event

A race of champions-style pursuit event for DTM cars at the famous Olympic Stadium in Munich could become a points round in 2012.

The first event on a specially laid out 1100m track in the stadium that hosted the 1972 Olympics will take place next July. Cars will race over two days.

ITR boss Hans-Werner Aufrecht said this was the “DTM coming to the fans”. He added the target was for the race to be a championship round in 2012.

It is rumoured that BMW, which is building a car to the new-for-2012 DTM rules, could confirm its participation in the series at the event.
