Prototype flaw addressed
The FIA has stepped in to try to solve the problem that has led to six Le Mans-style prototypes taking off at high speed this year. Peter Wright, head of the FIA Safety Commission, brought together designers and aerodynamicists of LMP machinery who will report back with potential solutions.
Wright said aerodynamic rule changes could be introduced before the end of the season. “The obvious thing to do is bring in major changes when new rules come into force in 2010, but we don’t want to wait a year and a half before acting.”
Any changes will be included in the Le Mans organisers’ plans to slow LMP prototypes over the next two seasons.
