Rockingham set to roll

Despite the announcement that the Eurospeedway Lausitzring track will not host a round of the FedEx CART Championship this year, the Rockingham race will go ahead as planned on September 14.

Fears that the British round would be harmed when the German venue filed for bankruptcy recently were scotched by David Grace, chief exec at Rockingham Motor Speedway.

Britain’s fastest motor race will be screened on BBC2 Grandstand on Sunday, September 15, the day after the race is actually run. More than an hour of the sports programme will be allocated to it.

Last year’s Rockingham 500 was the fastest-ever race in the UK, with Tony Kanaan posting the fastest lap of the weekend, 215.397mph around the 1.5-mile banked oval circuit

A sell-out crowd of 52,000 is expected for this year’s race.
