TREASURE IRELAND

TREASURE IRELAND

SIR,

I was just browsing through the magazine rack at our local supermarket when the cover of the July copy of MOTOR SPORT caught my eye, in particular the mention of an article about `Innes Ireland, fun guy, serious racer’. And I thought ‘Yes!’ I had my money ready and drove home in anticipation. I was not disappointed. It was lovely to see Innes remembered as a man as much as a racing driver, for some would say that it was as a man — indeed, as a gentleman — that he really made his mark on the sport. To me, he was a wonderful man. But then I am biased as I am his daughter! I was touched by the kind and sensitive way in which the article was written. The words of Andrew Frankel, and indeed those of Nigel Roebuck, whose article I also read at the time, meant so much to me, and brought a lump to my throat

His memory lives on!

His widow Jean has asked myself and my husband to drive to the Le Mans Classic this September in my late father’s Aston Martin DB6. Finances permitting, and with a following wind, lam thrilled and excited at the thought of the tip. I AM, rovits ETC, CHRISTIANNE TORRANCE (NEE IRELAND), BURFORD, OXON
