Miscellany, September 2001
The next major VSCC event will be the Loton Park hillclimb, on September 2. The 750MC has race meetings at Cadwell Park on September 1/2 and at Mallory Park on September 30. The remaining Bert Hadley A7 Championship dates are Harewood (August 26), Thoresby Park (September 16), North Weald (September 23) and Curborough (October 6).
The pre-war A7 Owner’s Magazine has been recalling the Austin “Whippet” light aeroplane in pictures and text.
In spite of cancelled traction-engine events, which many car folk enjoy, due to foot-and-mouth restrictions, The National Traction Engine Trust’s magazine Steaming continues its very high standard, with outstanding pictures. The current issue has a fascinating account of the Foden wagons used by the London County Council from 1907 onwards. The Great Dorset Steam Fair (August 29 September 2) looks like being held.
At the Bentley Drivers’ Club Silverstone Meeting on September 22 there will be a Bentley Parade, and a Bentley EXP Speed 8 will be demonstrated by Apex to celebrate again the Bentley return to Le Mans in June.
p>The financial impact of motorsport is emphasised in the news that International Sportsworld Communicators, promoters of the Network Q Rally of Great Britain, starting from Cardiff on November 22, expect to net 4.8 billion TV viewers worldwide. Don’t ask me how they estimate this. To you, it is still perhaps the RAC Rally.
