Unfair on Senna

Sir,

Your article ‘Too Good to be True’ stirred, shocked and angered me. I am not joining the Ayrton Senna vs Alain Prost debate, but I felt the article was totally unbalanced, and found it difficult to believe it was written by the editor.

Two points: firstly, you imply that Senna and Prost are still ‘not playing by the same rules’ because Senna is dead. Given the choice, Ayrton would rather be wrestling with the realities of life at the tail-end of the grid than lying in his grave. ‘Realities of life’ hardly seems an appropriate phrase for Formula One. Think of the destitute children of Brazil who have so much done for them by the Ayrton Senna Foundation.

Secondly, remember the British GP at Silverstone in 1988 and the European GP at Donington Park in ’93 that’s why we loved Ayrton!

A truly remarkable man. May he rest in peace.

I am,Yours etc,
