T51 beats Lister over 1000m
At the VSCC kilometre speed trial at Colerne aerodrome on June 23, Charles Dean’s T51 Bugatti recorded FTD (24.32sec). He was faster than a 1959 Lister-Jaguar by 0.22sec and was clocked at 140mph by the speedgun.
Andrew Day’s Bentley was fastest vintage (24.96sec/ 138mph); fastest lady was Jo Moss (Invicta).
George Daniels’ 1908 GP Itala (39.03sec/80mph) dominated the Edwardians ahead of the 1918 Stutz Bearcat. Tom Delaney’s Lea-Francis was just beaten by 0.43sec by Lucy Delaney in the Hyper Leaf (34.63sec/ 93mph), a fine family effort, while Simon Williamson had the 1923 Arpajon’ V12 Delage well on the growl (27.12sec/123mph). Another good run was John Sutton’s 105mph finish in the ex-Brettell s/c A7.
