Red Arrows memories
Thank Godness there are other books suitable beside Harry Potter! Such as In The Red by J T Kingsley (Pentland Press, ISBN 1 85821 754 7, £21.75) which is a combination of motor rallying and air racing, and how the author flew in the Red Arrows Display Team, having been in the RAF from 1954 to 1973.
He describes in driving in the London-Sydney Marathons of 1968 and 1972, the first in a BMC-prepared Austin 1800, and in the London-Mexico Rallies of 1970 and 1995, and in the London-Sydney and London-Victoria air races. The author drove for Volvo UK in the 1990s and claims to be the only one to finish all five events, including the 1997 Panama-Alaska. So a long and personal personal account of high adventure, with many aerodromes familiar to Londoners referred to, and Service life described from the author’s enrollment.
Flying in the Red Arrows team makes particularly interesting reading, as it goes into much detail of training and the displays.
