A Ferrari 250 California Spyder supplied to James Cagney in 1959 eclipsed the competition cars at Coys’ Silverstone sale, the Scaglietti-bodied car selling for £285,725.

Top price among the racers was £255,000 for a 1965 Ford GT40, raced in Australia in Gulf livery by George Parlby into the 1980s.

The ex-Jack Lambert Jaguar E competition car made £169,388, but the Source collection of Historic Grand Prix cars did not sell.
