TT cancelled

Britain’s oldest race, the Tourist Trophy, has this year been cancelled due to lack of interest.

As a round of the European Touring Car Championship, Silverstone’s long-distance saloon racing fixture has attracted strong entries from the Continent in recent years, but with the demise of that particular series it finds itself without a home. It was not deemed suitable as a finale to the British Touring Car Championship when the schedule was drawn up at the beginning of the year, and consequently has not figured in the calculation of many teams’ budgets. The event has therefore been replaced by a one-hour/two-driver round of the Uniroyal Production Saloon Championship, though the rest of the programme on September 10 is unaffected.
