1965 Drag festival
The Annual Festival of Drag Racing, inaugurated by the British Drag Racing Association last year, takes place on September 25/26th at Blackbushe Airport, near Camberley. It will be a combined motorcycle and car meeting, with individual timed runs over the standing-start 1/4-mile and a knock-out elimination contest. On Saturday the 25th September, starting at 10 a.m. there will be individual timed runs and eliminations for motorcycles, and the British entry should contain all the fastest sprint bikes in Britain, including quite a few that will be in the 10 sec. bracket. Also on this day there will be timed runs for cars, both British and American, and the team from the United States will consist of eight top-line Dragsters running on Nitro and capable of breaking the eight sec. mark, with terminal speeds close to 200 m.p.h.
On Sunday 26th September, starting at 12 noon, there will be the knock-out or elimination contest for the cars, both British and American, and the final run of the day for the two fastest American Dragsters should be well worth seeing. This year the eight American cars will be competing for money prizes in open competition, and not giving demonstration runs as last year, so things should get serious, for there is nothing like a bundle of pound notes at the end of the 1/4-mile to make people have a real go.
Blackbushe Airport is easily found, being on the A30 road to the West, just beyond Camberley, Surrey. Further details can be obtained from Drag Festival Ltd., 24-28, Clapham High Street, London, S.W.4.–D. S. J.
