It may be some way from F1 entry but the American gate-crashers are already recruiting in key positions

Nick Chester headshot

Nick Chester 
[Technical Director]
An engineer for Arrows before joining the then Benetton team in 2000. He rose through the ranks at Enstone and became technical director, under the Lotus name in 2013. In 2020 he took up a similar role with the Mercedes Formula E team, which subsequently morphed into McLaren. He joined Andretti in March 2023.


Jon Tomlinson headshot

Worked in IndyCar before joining Jordan in 2000 as senior aerodynamicist. He moved to Renault in 2002, and then served as head of aero at Williams from 2006-11 before returning to Enstone for another six-year stint. After a spell with Mercedes on Formula E and special projects he joined Andretti last December.


John McQuilliam headshot

One of the most experienced engineers in the Andretti camp. He was at Jordan and its immediate successors from 1991-2007, serving as chief designer for many years. He then worked at Manor/Marussia in the same role, before becoming technical director. He moved to Prodrive in 2017, latterly working as director of engineering, before joining Andretti.

Employee at Oxfordshire County Council before joining the Honda team at Brackley in 2007. He worked in various senior roles through the Brawn and Mercedes eras, eventually becoming head of IT commercialisation and future technology.


Naoki Tokunaga headshot

Highly regarded in the F1 industry, he worked at Nissan on road cars before a career switch in 2000 saw him join Benetton. He was head of control systems and KERS before becoming deputy technical director. From 2012-18 he was with Renault Sport in France, initially as technical director of the V6 project, before returning to Enstone as chief transformation officer.


Graeme Lowdon

Although keeping a low profile he has been one of the driving forces behind the Andretti project. A close associate of John Booth, as sporting director and later CEO and president he was a key player in the Manor Formula 1 team in 2009-15, learning how to deal with F1 and the FIA. Latterly he has been a paddock regular as manager of Zhou Guanyu.


Caroline McGrory 

Caroline McGrory 
[Chief Legal Officer]
Featured in the recent Brawn GP documentary, she was the legal head of the BAR/Honda team before overseeing the management buyout ahead of the 2009 season. After the sale to Mercedes she stayed at Brackley until the end of 2016. Spells at Leicester City, the Birmingham Commonwealth Games and Alpine F1 followed before joining Andretti.


Laura Sturland headshot

Another recruit from Mercedes, she joined the Brackley outfit in 2017, and latterly served as its group financial controller and finance director. She brings useful knowledge of the FIA financial regs and how the budget cap works.
