MGB and bar
I was very interested to read Brian Joscelyne’s letter mentioning Lt Cmdr Robert Hichens (spelled without a ‘t’) driving at Le Mans in 1939.
‘Hitch’ (spelled with a ‘t’!) had a remarkable war in motor gun boats, being awarded a DSO and bar and a DSC with two bars, so becoming the most highly decorated RNVR officer of the Second World War. For those interested in military history, his son Antony has written a fascinating book Gunboat Command published by Pen 8c Sword.
