Cycle of disappointment
Sir,
Just read Nigel Roebuck’s editorial about Silverstone and have to say how much I agreed with it. I was a cancelled Saturday attendee having spent £146 on tickets for myself and my two sons. We were extremely disappointed to be told not to attend (which we obeyed). I am going through the painstaking process of applying for a refund.
The main point about the whole Grand Prix episode is that my trust and faith in motor racing have been broken. My life-long love has been severely tested. I was going to attend the Silverstone Classic and the 1000Kms but now, frankly, cannot be bothered.
At the same time the Tour de France has captured our family’s imagination. It is very similar in many ways to motor racing and yet, despite the doping scandals, appears ‘cleaner’ than motor racing, especially Fl with its £28 million ‘gifts’.
As I write, I’m contemplating a visit to the Olympic road race but I doubt if I will see a motor racing circuit again this year. Especially if that refund does not come…
