GT1 goes on as makes sign up

Stephane Rate!, the boss of the of the FIA GT1 World Championship, has given the green light to next year’s series after securing entries for seven of the 10 teams he wants for 2012.

Ratel had vowed that he would not continue the championship unless he had 10 teams each representing one manufacturer by the end of July. He explained that reaching nearly three-quarters of his target was enough for him to commit to the series into 2012.

“We haven’t got 10 brands at this point, but what we have got has made us decide to push ahead,” he said. “We are 70 per cent of the way there and we have three more possible brands [AMG Mercedes, Chevrolet and Alpinal who could join us.”

The seven teams signed up so far are JR Motorsports (Nissan), All-Inkl.com (Lamborghini), Marc VDS (BMW), Belgian Racing (Ford), Young Driver AMR (Aston Martin), Vita4One (Ferrari) and WRT (Audi).
