Zak Brown’s team overcomes Audi weight penalties to make the podium at SPA

Last month I talked to Zak Brown (far left) about heading to Belgium with his United Autosports Audi R8 and Mark Blundell, Eddie Cheever and Richard Dean as team-mates for the Spa 24 Hours.

Thanks to the R8 being given weight penalties and rev and power restrictions earlier this year, his hopes of a good finish weren’t high. Some of these penalties have been slowly lifted throughout the 2010 season and, although they were given more weight for the 24-hour race, the car finished a remarkable third in class. If there hadn’t been a power-steering issue with the R8 a matter of hours from the finish, they might have made the top step of the podium.

After this result here’s hoping we see Cheever and Blundell racing again soon.
