Lotus 101 finally races at Spa

The ex-Nelson Piquet 1989 Lotus 101 finally made its Spa debut at the end of August, 14 years after the three-time F1 champion and team-mate Satoru Nakajima failed to qualify the cars for the Belgian Grand Prix.

Chassis number 2 has just been restored by Classic Team Lotus and was raced at the Ardennes track by Brazilian arch-enthusiast Aba Kogan, who finished 10th in a round of the EuroBOSS Championship for high-powered single-seater racing cars.

Piquet was one of 13 drivers among the 39-strong entry to fail to qualify, despite a strong showing —he finished fourth — in the British GP at Silverstone six weeks earlier.
