Kincraft needs careful owner

The unique Kincraft single-seater has been put up for sale in a bid to see it restored to its former glory.

The Len Terry-designed chassis, widely regarded as the inspiration behind Formula 5000, has been put on the market by racing car dealer Roger Cowman, who wants to sell to someone prepared to restore it.

“It hasn’t raced for more than 30 years, and it needs to be finished,” said Cowman. “It has the original engine and gearbox, both rebuilt.”

The Ford V8-powered Kincraft was ordered by Jack Pearce as the ultimate Formula Libre car and was based on Terry’s design for the 1961/62 Gilby F1 chassis. The car won 56 races in 1965-67 and was also entered in the inaugural British F5000 race in 1969.
