£1 m "Ferrari"
The first car to carry Ferrari’s Prancing Horse emblem sold for over 1,1 million in the Bonham & Brooks auction at Silverstone’s Historic Festival.
The Alfa Romeo 8C 2300 chassis number 27, raced in 1932 by Piero Taruffi, is expected to be taken to the USA once its restoration is complete.
After finishing second in 1932’s Spa 24 Hours for Scuderia Ferrari, the car was owned by Luigi Scarfiotti, father of ’60s GP driver Ludovico. In 1959 it was sold to a BBC cameraman who kept it until his recent death.
