Piper plans African sportscar race
South Africa’s Kyalami circuit will once again reverberate to the sound of sensational Sports Prototypes on December 5-6, when David Piper, who won six Rand 9-Hour races there in the 1960s, takes 20 European competitors back to the African continent.
“Kyalami was always a magical place, and I’m hoping that this race will further good relations with very enthusiastic people and become a regular winter event in the sun,” said Piper in announcing his promotion.
A Thoroughbred Grand Prix Car race has yet to be confirmed, as part of the build-up towards the circuit’s projected return to the Formula One circus. If it happens expect multiple South African F1 champion Dave Charlton to be on hand to drive his old Lotus 72-3, now owned by Michael Schryver. MP
