Porsche's Indycar
One new model revealed at the Frankfurt Show was the CART/Indy contender from Porsche. Now that the company’s Group C sportscar programme has been put into abeyance, the Indy project has been given maximum priority.
A probable race debut this month will lead to Al Holbert’s Porsche Motorsport North America team running one car next year, and two in 1989, an Indianapolis win being the Holy Grail.
Over 700 bhp is expected from the 2649cc V6, which draws greatly on the company’s experience with the TAG F1 engine.
