SALONEN’S Datsun (above) is watched on its way to fourth place by the King of Sweden, whose Bell 206L is parked in the field. Airikkala took very quickly to his Lancer Turbo (below) and scored a fine fourth place.

OPEL had a disappointing time, for Toivonen (below) all but destroyed his Ascona by going through a concrete sand trough, then blowing his head gasket, whilst Bjorn Johansson’s car also blew its gasket.

RUSSELL BROOKES was sixth in his Chevette (above) the highest place ever achieved by a

driver who is neither Finnish nor Swedish. Alen’s Lancia (below) seized its engine, but there were also fears for the structure of the car itself.
