Didier Pironi’s horrific accident at Hotkenheim has added to this year’s bloody season. No one seems to have realised that the high-speed accidents which killed the late, great Villeneuve and crippled Pironi were due to driver error and not an increase in cornering speeds.

The rear tyres of an P1 car seem to act as a lethal launching pad for any car in contact with it. Maybe some son of shield behind the rear wheels Snight reduce or avert a disaster.
