Channel Tunnel nearer?

Mr. John Peyton, the British Minister for Transport, and his French counterpart M. Robert Galley have agreed with the international group responsible for the Channel Tunnel studies the basis upon which these studies should continue. Under the agreement the studies will be completed by the middle of next year at a cost of £5 million, approx. half of which is guaranteed by the two governments and the remainder from private sources. It is expected that a decision whether or not to undertake the further work leading up to the actual construction will be taken as soon as possible after the results of the studies become available.
