British driver John Cobb broke the Land Speed Record three times – twice before the war and again in 1947. Here’s Cobb, age 47, sitting in the 28ft 8in Railton Special at Brooklands while the body is lowered onto the chassis. He set his final LSR at Utah’s Bonneville Salt Flats in September, averaging 394.19mph over the measured mile.
