Hall of Fame 2013
The Motor Sport magazine Hall of Fame will step up a gear in 2013. The annual event, which honours the great names of our sport both past and present, will be held at the Royal Opera House in Covent Garden, London on February 25. More new members will be invited to join our exclusive club of drivers, riders, designers and engineers, and on the same night we will host a charity auction in aid of the Grand Prix Mechanics Charitable Trust.
Special items donated by Formula 1 teams will go under the hammer, with bids welcomed ahead of February 25. The list of collectable items will be made public at our readers’ evening with Sir Jackie Stewart, founder of the Trust, on December 5 (see p111). The three-time World Champion is also a founding member of the Motor Sport magazine Hall of Fame.
The GPMT celebrates its 25th anniversary this year. It was founded in 1987 with the sole aim of coming to the aid of Formula 1 mechanics and their families who have fallen on hard times or suffering from ill health. Around 270 mechanics are listed on the Trust’s register. While many of them are veterans of the 1960s and ’70s, the organisation also responds to the needs of mechanics of more recent eras and each case is dealt with on an individual basis.
