Gold Cup Historic Festival to top Oulton's 50-year celebrations
Oulton Park will celebrate its 50th anniversary next season with a programme that will be topped by an improved and extended Gold Cup Historic Festival.
Building on the success of the inaugural event, FORCE, HGPCA and the BRDC are expected to join with the Historic Sports Car Club in providing races for the August Bank Holiday meeting.
Said Octagon’s Robin Murphy: “The 2002 Gold Cup was only the beginning, and with some excellent input from the competitors and enthusiasts, we look forward to putting together an even better Gold Cup weekend for 2003.”
It is possible that the long-planned redevelopment of the pits and race control buildings will be carried out to coincide with the anniversary, as well as a possible alteration to a Knickerbrook chicane that puts heavy demands on historic cars.
“There are constant and ongoing plans to develop all the Octagon circuits,” said Murphy.
