Amazing grace
Sir,
Sad though I will be that Alain Prost isn’t racing in 1994, isn’t it nice to see one of the sport’s greats bowing out gracefully while he’s still at the peak of his powers?
All too often, in my opinion, drivers continue in Formula One long after they have passed their sell-by date. Can’t blame them, I suppose, if teams keep selecting them in preference to hungry Formula 3000 graduates, but Prost’s decision leaves me with two fervent hopes. Firstly, that he has a happy and fruitful retirement; secondly, that other members of F1 ‘s senior citizens’ club will see the sense of the world champion’s actions, and step aside to make way for some much-needed new blood.
I very much look forward to seeing some exciting new names in F1 next season.
