Patrese confirmed at Williams

As expected, Frank Williams announced before the Spanish Grand Prix that the most experienced driver in Formula One has been signed to replace Nelson Piquet next season.

Riccardo Patrese, who was contesting his 157th Grand Prix at Jerez, has been in F1 for more than ten years, and has driven previously for Arrows, Brabham and Alfa Romeo. He will partner Nigel Mansell in Williams’ normally-aspirated Judd V8-powered chassis in 1988.

Patrese, aged 33, has two GP victories to his name from his earlier spell at Brabham in 1982-83.
