THE LATE Nubar Gulbenkin had a London cab converted for his personal use. “I understand it can turn on a sixpence,” be said, “whatever that may be,” It proved to be an extremely practical town carriage and the wonder is that there were not mom imitators.
Now Tickford has produced a lengthened FX4 cab, powered by a 2.3-line petrol engine, which is aimed at the executive mayoral market. Air conditioning, leather trim, a colour TV and video are all standard and a radio / telephone is a listed extra along with a drinks cabinets boardroom table, computer, fridges intercom and, even, a flag pole.
Automatic transmission is standard and the exhaust system has been modified to ensure a very low, noise level. It is marketed jointly by Carbodies, the taxi’s makers, .cl Tickford, and costs £39,000.
