In answer to your correspondent W. Gibbs, Jean Bugatti did complete a practice rim at Shelsley in 1932, crashing during a later run. C. A. N. May in his book “Shelsley Walsh” states that the time (which was, of course, unofficial) was so startling that secretary Leslie Wilson declared that the secret must forever remain in his (Wilson’s) bosom, from which wild horses would not drag it.
