THE VCC/RAC BRIGHTON RUN
This year’s Renault-sponsored Veteran Car Run from Hyde Park to Brighton takes place on Sunday, November 2nd. It promises as much interest as ever for those who turn out to watch the 8 a.m. start from London, line the 52-mile route, or go to the Madeira Drive for the arrivals. Our advice is to use the signposted alternative routes instead of adding to the congestion that troubles the veterans more and more every year and to either get to the finish well before the first of the veterans is due at about 10.30 a.m. or to spectate from the roadside, because later in the day Brighton becomes very crowded. By all means enjoy this unique free spectacle but please do not brake heavily in front of the competitors or hem them in.
The entry this time runs to 320 pre-1905 vehicles, beginning with Daimler-Benz’s 1893 Benz, The Editor of MOTOR SPORT hopes to be on the 1901 Lanchester No, 83. entered by Peter Mitchell, who looks after Leyland’s historic cars. Among the less-probable makes we note Jeanperrin, Scheibler, Grout, and Elmore, to rival the well-known veterans.
